How strong are nylon cable ties?

Ever wonder just how tough nylon cable ties can be? These little devices are used all around but no one really knows how much data it can hold. Now NBSZS set out on a mission to find out, and they ran some tests — the results might surprise you.

How Strong Are They?

Nylon cable ties have served as a low-cost means to bind various wires and objects together and organize them. You might see them in use as cable ties, used to tie together items in a bundle, or even for crafts. But how strong of a connection is this exactly? NBSZS then put various types of Nylon Cable Ties to test, both in terms of quantity and tensile strength.

How Strong Are Nylon Cable Ties

Nylon cable ties are constructed of nylon 6/6, one of the strongest plastics. This unique plastic is extremely strong, flexible, and not subject to wear in the short term. NBSZS conducted the tests and discovered that even the smallest size of these nylon cable tie can withstand 18 lbs of force.

How Nylon Cable Ties Work

Nylon cable ties have the ability to handle various tons of pressure without a break. Designed to be stretched, squished and bent, they can serve multiple functions. In other words, they can while oppose tension, which is the attempt to pull the tie apart. They can also resist compressive forces, which is when a heavy weight comes down on top of them. They can also twist in different directions, but still remain intact. It also has the ability to withstand temperature fluctuations, can repel water, and withstand some chemicals, and is why nylon cable zip tie are tremendous for most projects.
